The Rotary Connection – The Burning of the Midnight Lamp

The morning is dead
And the day is, too Nothing here to greet me
But the velvet moon All my loneliness I have felt today
It’s a little more than enough To make a man throw himself away And I continue
To burn the midnight lamp All alone… Your smiling portrait on my frowning wall Really doesn’t bother me, bother me at all It’s just the falling dust
That really makes it hard for me to see Forgotten earring lying on the floor
Facing coldly towards the door And I continue
To burn the midnight lamp All alone… The morning is dead
And the day is, too Nothing here to greet me
But the velvet moon All my loneliness I have felt today It’s like a little more than enough
To make a man throw himself away And I continue
To burn the midnight lamp All alone…

  1. I KNOW YOU'RE JUST RIPPIN THE PACKAGIN OFF YOUR CD…

  2. This is a bit over the top, but it does work as an attempt to turn this into an orchestrated piece. In myย  Hendirx covers playlist with Living Colour's version. Thanks for the upload!

  3. There are few recordings that give me goosebumps the way the middle break in this song does. Instead of an instrumental solo, Minnie Riperton's angelic voice is let loose to soar gloriously, like nothing I have ever heard elsewhere. Charles Stepney made some incredible arrangements with this group.
